Open Letter from an Ex-Gay to Pope Francis

Posted on May 29, 2014 at 1:15 PM

Dear Holy Father,

my name is Robert. I am 46 years old and a Catholic (even though it took me a little detour to come back to the Catholic Church). My past is not as bright and shining as that of others I guess: I used to embrace the “gay” life for many years until the Lord set me free about ten years ago with the help of a Christian ministry called Homosexuals Anonymous (www.homosexuals-anonymous.com).

The reason I am writing you today is because I love you like I loved my earthly father who passed away 20 years ago and because I believe you can get things going where others stay silent.

I am so thankful and feel so blessed that the Lord brought me to Homosexuals Anonymous. The people there did what actually the Church should do: They loved me enough to help me out of my gay life and (back) into the Church. I now serve the Jason Ministries (http://jason-online.webs.com), an international Christian ex-gay ministry affiliated with Homosexuals Anonymous.

Having received Christian truth, love and care abundantly, I firmly believe that many others could find help as well through our services and the organizations we are working together with – if the Church only let us. Considering the many factors that contribute to the development of long-term and predominant sexual and emotional attractions towards the same sex, we do not help people with same-sex attractions (wrongly called “homosexuals” at times – there is only one sexuality and that is the God-given one!) by staying passive and silent or even encouraging them to embrace a “gay” life. Yes, ministries like ours are being attacked and usually put into a radical corner. But then again – they nailed the Son of God onto the Cross, so why should they treat His followers any differently?

Holy Father, soon the bishop’s synod on family will start. Please give us a chance to make our voice heard and love others with unwanted same-sex attractions with the same unconditional love Jesus has for us.

From what I get to read in the media, you also reach out to “people like us” and you seem to have a heart for us as well. Maybe you even give us a chance to talk to you in person? I am sure you will hear many voices of “gay”-affirming people – wouldn’t it be good to hear the voice of freedom too?

I really hope and pray you will be able to read this letter and it will touch your heart like God touched mine years ago.

With brotherly love,

Robert

Virginia Universities an ‘Unsafe Zone’ for Students with Unwanted Same-Sex Attractions
Groundbreaking Campus Climate Report Documents Medical Inaccuracies, Discrimination, and Bias at Virginia University LGBTQ Resource Centers

Bristow, VA -- Today, Voice of the Voiceless (VoV), the only anti-defamation league for former homosexuals, individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions (SSA), and their families, released a groundbreaking report documenting years of medical inaccuracy, discrimination, and bias at Virginia University LGBTQ Resource Centers. Titled: Campus Climate Report: Virginia University LGBTQ Resource Centers an ‘Unsafe Zone’ for Students with Unwanted Same-Sex Attractions.
The report, which contains links to video and audio recordings, documents seven undercover visits to Virginia University LGBTQ Resource Centers made by two former homosexuals in September 2013, as well as evidence of discriminatory conduct from at least two universities towards Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX), a national non-profit organization advocating for individuals with unwanted SSA and ex-gays. Click here to download the 86-page report.
Liberty Counsel, an international nonprofit litigation, education, and policy organization dedicated to advancing religious freedom, the sanctity of life, and the family continues to represent VoV, and is engaged in ongoing negotiations with the universities and the Virginia office of the Attorney General in the effort to bring reform in the 2014-2015 school year.
“As students and teachers begin to depart for their summer breaks, we are pleased to release this groundbreaking report on our findings. At the same time, we are concerned by the amount of medical inaccuracies and lack of equity for students with unwanted SSA at these centers,” commented Christopher Doyle, President and Co-Founder of VoV. “We look forward to working with university administrators in Virginia over the summer to make meaningful policy reforms for the 2014-2015 school year so that all students experiencing homosexuals feelings in our public higher education institutions are given appropriate, culturally-sensitive resources and counsel.”
Detailed in the Campus Climate Report is the following:
•    Evidence documenting a pattern of dishonest communication between University of Virginia administrators and organizations advocating for students who are ex-gay and/or have unwanted SSA. Specifically, this included an effort to suppress resources that were donated from PFOX to the LGBTQ Resource Center for students seeking sexual orientation change and tolerance for the ex-gay community.

•    Serious medical inaccuracies at James Madison University regarding the heath risks of homosexual anal intercourse and the resulting disparities of HIV infection rates between men who have sex with men and heterosexual students.

•    Inaccurate and unscientific opinions on the outcomes of Sexual Orientation Change Effort (SOCE) therapy at George Mason University, including biased counsel that students would become anxious, depressed, and ultimately commit suicide should they seek help to change sexual orientation.

•    Misleading statements on the etiology of homosexuality at Old Dominion University and the College of William and Mary, including the unscientific assertion that homosexual feelings are genetic and/or in-born.

•    Inappropriate referrals and a lack of culturally-sensitive resources at Virginia Commonwealth University, including the recommendation that Christian students with unwanted SSA attend gay-affirming places of worship, rather than be referred to faith-based ministries that support their desire to change sexual orientation and/or remain chaste/celibate.

“LGBTQ Resource Centers can be a place of support to all sexual minority students struggling or seeking assistance, but when university administrators favor one viewpoint over another, it becomes a discriminatory and unsafe atmosphere,” commented Doyle. “By offering services in a public forum, universities are obligated to represent all views of sexuality and sexual orientation and provide competent services and referrals. In our visits to these universities, we documented a clear pattern of bias, insensitivity, and discrimination towards students with unwanted SSA, especially towards those who hold to a traditional Biblical view of homosexual behavior.”

The Campus Climate Report concludes with a quote from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) that is especially relevant to these injustices: “How much we value the right of free speech is put to its severest test when the speaker is someone we disagree with most. Speech that deeply offends our morality or is hostile to our way of life warrants the same constitutional protection as other speech because the right of free speech is indivisible: When one of us is denied this right, all of us are denied . . . this is particularly true at universities, whose mission is to facilitate learning through open debate and study, and to enlighten. Speech codes
are not the way to go on campuses, where all views are entitled to be heard, explored, supported or refuted.”

Two Dozen Organizations Release Open Letter Seeking Clarification of Diversity Policy

Washington, DC -- Following CEO Brendan Eich’s forced resignation from Mozilla Corporation due to a $1,000 contribution in 2008 in support of California’s Proposition 8 referendum supporting traditional marriage, Voice of the Voiceless (VoV) has joined two dozen organizations in signing an open letter, asking for a formal clarification from the technology company’s policy on free speech and diversity for heterosexuals, former homosexuals, and religious individuals who adhere to a traditional Biblical view of marriage. The coalition is also seeking an explanation as to why Mr. Eich was forced to resign due to his sincerely held religious beliefs and support for traditional marriage. The letter can be viewed by clicking here...

“Mozilla claims to adhere to an inclusive, safe atmosphere embracing and defending diversity within its organization, yet it contrarily allowed for a workplace environment so hostile to Mr. Eich as to pressure him into resignation,” commented John Ozanich, Advisory Board member of VoV. “Mr. Eich did not make any statements or donations on behalf of Mozilla, but rather, exercised his first amendment rights as a private citizen in his support of Proposition 8. Why is he being punished for living out his faith? Diversity must also embrace free speech and expression, which includes the right to support one’s sincerely held religious beliefs in the public forum.”

Mozilla’s actions call into question why some employees that have privately contributed to certain political causes are scrutinized, yet others are not. “Will Mozilla conduct investigation’s into all of its employees’ political and charitable donations, or only examine the contributions of those who give to pro-family and conservative causes? In the spirit of fairness, Mozilla owes an explanation to its employees and customers as to what constitutes diversity and inclusion,” commented Ozanich.

“That Mozilla would allow this type of workplace hostility to cause the forced resignation of its co-founder and new CEO should be a concern and call into question the priorities of the corporation, which is placing political correctness over their purpose and mission – and by extension, its employees, users, customers, investors, and dependent businesses of Mozilla products,” commented Ozanich.

PUBLIC STATEMENT AND REQUEST FOR FORMAL CLARIFICATION BY MOZILLA CORPORATION REGARDING THE RESIGNATION OF CEO BRENDAN EICH

Posted on April 12, 2014 at 2:40 PM

Date: 04/04/14

To:  Mozilla Corporation

In review of the recent circumstances which resulted in the resignation of Brendan Eich as CEO of Mozilla Corporation significant concerns of a large number of individuals and businesses have been raised.  Those affected include organizations comprised and representative of those individuals who have changed or seek to change their sexual preference, their supporters and supporting businesses, and individuals and businesses supporting Mozilla and supporting or participating Mozilla employees.  Upon review of details reported in the press and statements made both during and after Mr. Eich’s resignation by Mozilla, our organizations have made the following observations and conclusions:

WHEREAS – Mozilla touts an inclusive, safe environment embracing and defending diversity within its organization, it contrarily allowed for a workplace environment so hostile to Mr. Eich as to pressure him into resignation.

WHEREAS – Mozilla touts inclusiveness within its business, it inappropriately uses personal and private opinions, including non-work related activities, as a justification to allow for a hostile workplace environment in support of internal populist politics and to punish employees for their rightful participation in matters of public policy.

WHEREAS – Mozilla defends the notion of diversity, Mozilla Corporate has clearly taken sides against the American public and an unknown number of Mozilla employees on an issue for which other corporations, such as Cisco and Bank of America, have publicly stated they will ensure employee rights to their own opinion and protect their participation on matters of public policy while maintaining a safe and diverse workplace.  Mozilla has clearly failed in this regard.

WHEREAS – Workplace diversity is commonly accepted to refer to important personal traits such as race, religion, origin, physical ability or disability and ethnicity, Mozilla has opted to inappropriately include in their workplace the irrelevant and often fluid private issue of sexual proclivities making for a hostile working environment for those privately struggling with, objecting to certain behaviors or in the process of changing their personal sexual identity.

WHEREAS – the voting majority of the United States and the majority of nations hosting Mozilla operations have made clear their position on the public policy matter of so-called ‘gay’ marriage, Mozilla has taken an opposing position to their host nations and the voting majority of the US, thus a huge segment of their customers and an unknown number of its own employees.  The opinion of the American public in this regard was made clear in the unprecedented public reaction to incidents with Chick-Fil-A and A&E networks for which Mozilla seems determined to form a trio.

WHEREAS – Brendan Eich has been, and will go down in history as, an individual who has made rarely equaled contributions to society through technological advancement, Mozilla as a technology company appears to be making the statement that improving lives through technology is no longer their primary mission as it permits a workplace hostile to the talent making that mission possible.

WHEREAS – Mozilla’s allowance of this workplace hostility and the loss of Brendan Eich over a minor partisan political issue a priority over their purpose and mission – users, customers, investors and dependent businesses of Mozilla products would seem to want to question the reliability of Mozilla and their invested dependence on Mozilla products.

IN CONCLUSION – We, our members, supporters and supporting businesses call for Mozilla to make a clear statement to its employees as to whether this incident is a dog whistle to all pro-marriage, pro-family, pro-life and religious employees and talent to vacate the company or will Mozilla ensure a truly diverse and safe workplace environment for them.

IN CONCLUSION - We, our members, supporters and supporting businesses call for Mozilla to make a public statement to all of its pro-marriage, pro-family, pro-life and religious investors, users, supporters, personal and business customers as to whether Mozilla holds a discriminatory intent toward doing business with them based on their public policy participation or positions on those policies.
